25 by 25 : Reducing non communicable diseases by 25% by 2025 #25by25
Sunday, May 27, 2012 at 10:06AM The World Health Organisation has pledged to reduce non communicable diseases by 25% by 2025. This is in response to the huge burden on non communicable diseases or lifestyle diseases on the lives of people we love, communities in which we live and nations all around the world.
Non communicable diseases (Twitter follow #NCDs) are the biggest threat to nations both in lives lost and economically. 36 million people die from preventable and treatable lifestyle diseases such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, osteoporosis, and mental health each year. This is an unacceptable loss of life and suffering in 21st century medicine.
These are names and faces in every doctors waiting room. These are names and faces of people you love....
So what can you do to help?
The weight and health of OUR nations are at breaking point: http://books.nap.edu/openbook.php?record_id=13275&page=127
Cancer alone can be reduced by 25% by helping people to access healthier diets and regular exercise: https://www.mja.com.au/journal/2012/196/5/estimating-future-burden-cancers-preventable-better-diet-and-physical-activity

and we know regular exercise prevents and treats disease:
So I'm asking each of you to pledge to helping 25 people you love and care for to #getactive and enjoy regular exercise until 2025.
Lets make '25 by 25' REAL!
They can be patients, family, friends, neighbours, people you love and care for, people at work, people you don't really know- but I'm asking you to help make a difference: get people moving to healthier lifestyles!
This is a call to action to the world: each of us: help 25 people to enjoy and sustain regular exercise until 2025.
Its not a BIG ASK... its an opportunity to help 25 people enjoy better health and better lifestyles. And just maybe we can reverse the obesity and lifestyle disease tsunami to: healthier families, healthier communities and nations that are proud to have helped people stay healthy!
